People who have said that Barack Obama would not harm a fly have been proven incorrect. During a CNBC flyspecking interview of the president, the no fly zone near the President's cranium was violated and, showing great dexterity, he bashed the fly and crushed it with the agility of a bullfrog (video here). Now let's see him do it blindfolded with chopsticks while wearing a catcher's mitt.
In response to Obama's "fatally slapping" an officious offending airborne interloper NORAD failed to detect and deter, PETA sent him a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, which allows users to trap flies and release them outside.
They urged Mr. Obama to set up a rehabilitation program for house flies, teaching them to keep clean, stay away from excrement and other ordure, and to learn to pollinate plants instead (because all the honeybees are dying and need replacements.) This will all occur in the new division of the Old GM, now known as Federal Motors, under a one hundred million dollar grant program. Then we can insert that human speech gene they want to put in mice, and teach them to become CNBC anchors, or to sing opera.
PETA Propagandist Bruce Friedrich says, "We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals. We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals." PETA calls the swatting an "execution" and recommends dealing with insects "kindly" by keeping your living space clean or, in the case of mosquitoes, taking B vitamins and rubbing yourself with vodka. It won't kill the little buggers, but it will require the insects to attend many tiny little twelve step programs. Be aware of that if a mosquito comes to apologize to you for the harm it did to you in passing on that Nile Virus.
Who is PETA to be so self righteous when it comes to disease carrying pests? LEt's look at their record:
PETA's "Animal Record" report for 2008, filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, shows that the animal rights group killed 95 percent of the dogs and cats in its care last year. During all of 2008, PETA found adoptive homes for just seven pets.
The website Petakillsanimals says : "From July 1998 through December 2008, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed over 21,000 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals." That's more than five defenseless creatures every day. PETA has a walk-in freezer to store the dead bodies, and contracts with a Virginia Beach company to cremate them."
But if flies get in the freezer we have to assume they will be caught and released into the wild--once again to be free range manure gobblers.
